Dear Ubuntu users,
I would like to ask you a couple of questions about Ubuntu. I am a Debian
user on a G4 powerbook 12' and I am thinking about trying Ubuntu.
I really like Debian, though I am not too happy about the current hardware
support with Debian:
1) Brightness control, can't decrease the brightness which is not very good
if you
want to extend your battery time
2) Sleep
3) Digital camera is not recognized
4) I had to recompile the kernel to get my usb wireless working
Would Ubuntu solve some of these issues, by reading the user-mailing list it
seems that it would
but I would like to hear more from people before I actually replace Debian
by Ubuntu.
Now I have some questions about Ubuntu:
1) I heard that the power management of Ubuntu was not as good as Debian,
which
would discharge the battery faster. Is this true?
2) Can we adjust the brigthness, not possible with Debian at least not with
the original kernel
3) I am not a big Gnome user, could I switch to KDE and still have the same
hardware support?
4) Does the DVI output works, which is very important to make slide
presentations
I hope that some of you will be able to answer my questions.
Partial answers are more than welcome.
Thanks a bunch!!
Raphael
