I must admit, it probably me getting lazy, but these days, I just want
to get my work done, when I first started using GNU/Linux around 6 years
ago, I did not have a problem manually reediting my XF86Config file, but
I feel these days, with the way GNU/Linux has evolved, these things
should transparently happen in the background, or at least when you
change say the video card, it loads the vesa module.
Rather than put the emphasis on the distro, this should really be built
into XFree86, or even Xorg, (which I have not yet used, it may even
include it).
The same goes for adding any new recognised hardware, I feel all mount
points and device nodes should automatically be added/loaded (udev and
hotplug goes to helping this now), GNU/Linux itself handles new devices
a whole lot better then MS Windows, ever does, I had to change a
motherboard in one of my work desktops running Windows XP (no reinstall,
as it would take too much time), blue screen on boot up (this it did
require a reinstall, in the end).
Done the same here with Ubuntu and viola, no problem what so ever :), or
even any distro really.
