Firefox Still Overlaps Lower Panel; How To Manage Services?

Running a fresh install of the release after using the preview, I
noticed that a maximized Firefox still overlaps the bottom panel.
Other apps don't, and neither does Firefox on other distributions. It
isn't critical, but it is annoying.
Also, is there any info on how to manage services in Ubuntu, and that
also explains the choice of default services? (E.g., why do I need an
rsync deamon on my desktop?) I don't come from a Debian background,
so I'm not even sure how to get a list of active services. Checked
the FAQ's and the wiki but didn't see anything there.
