hi!
i use ubuntu since ca. 3 to 4 weeks and have a little problem with my
wlan-card.
in the past i ever had to download the firmware from prism54.org and
copy it to /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware to get the card working...sofar no
problem. yesterday a friend of mine told me that the final release from
yesterday does support the card without copying the firmware first to
the firmware directory. so i downloaded the final iso (my old
installation was damaged anyway :-/) and tried to install it new with
the new iso. at some point you will be asked for the essid and the
wep-key. that means that at least the card is known by the kernel...
fine... but when i write my essid and the wep-key i get a message that
no dhcp-server has send me an ip or anything else.
so my question is: is that the normal way it works or should i get an ip
from the dhcp-server during installation-time?
my friend told me that with his card everything works during
installation... nothing to configure about wlan after reboot. he uses a
different card but we both have the same chip on it... so im wondering
what i'm doing wrong?!?
any ideas?
martin
ps: sorry for my poor english... i'm german :-) and yep: i know how dhcp
works... i only wonder why noone else seems to have this problem.
