I don't really understand why you want to split the community at this
stage. The forums are intergrated with the mailing list and although
they create some nasty messages sometimes at least the community can
communicate together using these various formats in one place.
This makes it easier for users to get help and understand where ubuntu
is going and for developers to gauge response and gather feedback.
If it's just chat you want the old sounders list has been redescribed as
a chat zone where nothing is offtopic.
The live journal would need a member of the development team to
continually post just to get people to create bugzilla reports.
As for the fact the mailing list is difficult to search isn't that
googles job?
I can't understand the reasons for this community attempting to fragment
so much even before a product is released. It's something I have never
seen before (but to be fair the only large projects I have been so close
to for a *long* time have been more mature) imagine where we would be if
the linux community had fragmented so much in it's first 3 months? I
doubt we would be having this conversation now.
