pppd stops communicating with modem on ttyS1after a minute or two

Since you say everything works fine under other environments, that 
messages makes it seem like it's trying to ping the other side and not 
getting a response.

Are you running a firewall that's blocking outbound pings to/from your 
gateway? And does that modem STILL work in other environments? It could 
conceivably have gone bad since the last time you used it in Windows 
etc? :) Ok, I'm stretching there but it could happen.


Otherwise I have no idea. Dialup is working ok for me so far. [now that 
I finally got a working modem ;) ]
