OT: recommend fast 2D card?

I also really like the Matrox cards, I still have one sitting
at my wife's parents' house doing nothing, gotta grab it next
time I'm there.  They are not only great on 2D, but IMO have
sharpest and clearest text of any card of used.

That said, I'm currently using a whitebox Radeon 9000
and am very happy with it also.  I've had a lot of
nvidia cards but this was my first Radeon, and I'd say
I pretty much like it as well as a Matrox.

Like you and the OP, I'm not a gamer and so have really
no use for 3D, I just want clear crisp text and fast 2D.
Matrox fills that bill better than any, but Radeons are
a very close second and older Radeon boards are easy
to get and cheap.
