VMWare tools in Ubuntu

Dear Ubuntu community -

I am having my first go with Ubuntu and like what I see!
Current installation is within a VMWare (4.5.2) box. Installation was
without a problem, but I have an issue with the VMWare tools.

When I try the installation of the tools, it seems to need the kernel
headers that match the current kernel. I tried to get those with
Synaptics but they do not seem to match the current kernel (according to
VMWare):

  The directory of kernel headers (version 2.6.8.1-3-386) does
  not match your running kernel (version 2.6.8.1-2-386)

Not sure if this is a bad guess from VMWare or I got the wrong package?

Any hints much appreciated!
