I just finished installing (and working around) an APIC/ACPI bug
described at https://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2355 and the
distribution works flawlessly now. Everything -- even the video and
ethernet -- were detected and setup properly the first time I installed.
Congrats to the Ubuntu team on making such a clean Debian-derived
distribution, and another hearty congrats to those in the community who
helped to work out the previously mentioned bug! (my laptop doesn't feel
as heavy now that it doesn't have to run Windows anymore) ^,^
