I like this way of keeping time! :-)
For what it's worth, when I was using Slackware I tried all the newest
"bleeding edge" X server and the few little apps that show off the
transparency stuff, and while It does look cool, it's definitely not
built for performance yet. Unless something has changed since then
(it's been a month or more), neither Gnome or KDE were aware of the
eye candy stuff yet. That meant that you had to run a little program
(can't remember it's name) via command line and then click on the app
you wanted transparent. So it's not very user friendly yet - and it's
not really meant to be. BTW - I was also not using a very powerful
graphics card (Nvidia TNT2 w/32Mb VRAM), so I'm sure other people got
much better pefromance out of the eye candy.
Like Oli said, wait for it in Hoary and I'm sure it'll be worth it. I
can only see Ubuntu getting better and better, so I can hardly wait to
see all the goodies in the next version.... and the version after
that... and the version after that. :-)
