Totem crashes when trying to play avi file and no sound preview in nautilus

It's a "meta-package" used to pull in the default packages at 
install/update time. If you install totem-xine you are deviating from 
the default install set so it must be removed. You don't lose any apps 
or other packages though. It might mean that any extra apps added to the 
distro in the future won't get pulled in by default when upgrading (not 
sure about that - ask one of the devs) but it won't break anything.
