What follows is some problems I encounted installing Ubuntu from the
Warty RC1 installer cd and on subsequent boots into Ubuntu.

While in my debian install(to give an overview of my hardware)

[root at Yogi:~]#

HW detection failed to correctly identify the NIC, it should use the
8139too module (Nearest I could find in an lsmod was 8139cp)
Unloading 8139cp and modprobing 8139too failed to get a network
connection with /etc/networking/interfaces setup correctly, compared
to known working one.

The sound was mis-configured, once some sound was sent to the card it
keept repeating the same 2 seconds, not stopping until I logged out. -
This is the same problem knoppix 3.4 has(forget how 3.6 handles it, I
think the same way)

Noticed during all boots into Ubuntu errors along the lines of:
modprobe: FATAL: Error inserting pciehn.ko Operation not permitted
modprobe: FATAL: Error inserting shpchp.ko Operation not permitted

Odd thing, when I first logged into the gui and changed to 800x720(I
think that's it, 800x something anyway) and made the refresh rate 72hz
it worked fine, but on next reboot it wouldn't work properly - the
screen went fuzzy and I had to revert to a lower refresh rate of 60hz.

USB did not appear to work either, plugged in a usb-mass-storage
device(read mp3 player:D ) and it was not automounted as I thought it
was supposed to from the reviews I've read, nor any /dev/sda1 .

There were an absurd amount of modules loaded, 'ipv6','fan' and
'thermal' plus many I havn't a clue about and appered to be unrelated
to my HW. I noticed more than a few modules for my tvcard loaded
however I only tried to load tvtime which was not present, forgot to
test if there was xawtv and don't know the names of other viewers.

Mandrake 9.1 (or was it 9.0?) the network card and sound worked out of
the box when I tried it over a year or so ago , all the installs of
debian(woody/sarge) I've done detected and setup at least the network
card fine.

Other than that I found the installer fairly simple, quick and nifty.
:D Now if only it liked my machine... I still want to try Ubuntu, I
have heard good things about once it's all working so if this reads as
a rant you've got the wrong idea.
