That seems very unlikely, though it is entirely possible that upgrading from
one version of the kernel to another (as part of the process of getting the
restricted modules installed) triggered the problem.

If so, it would help a great deal to know which version worked and which
version failed.  If either of you have that information, please add it to
Bugzilla.
