Unable to boot - Kernel panic error: additional

Assuming there is no way to resolve my problem (Kernel panic, etc), is
there a way to do a repair install using an install CD? When I
previously tried to ask Ubuntu to install on an existing linux
partition without destroying the data (an existing Ubuntu
installation), it failed utterly and refused to progress from the
partitioning stage of the install process.

If this has now been "fixed" in the latest build/release candidate,
perhaps I can repair the problem (which appears to include initrd
commands missing from my menu.lst and indeed the initrd files missing
from the disk (that is, if understand correctly that there should be an
instance of initrd.img for each kernel version installed). By the way I
have been using the K7 version of the kernel.

As I said previously, I have been using Ubuntu as the OS of choice over
my W2K, BeOS and QNX installations, so my current inability to use it
is a cause of some sadness!

Any further help will be very greatly appreciated.

Regards,
AndyJ
