Even if the autoconfiguration fails, you aren't dumped to a shell; you would
get a dialog informing you of the failure and offering to display the server
logfile.

In fact, the installer won't ever leave you at a shell.  The closest I can
think of is a custom install, where you are left at the login: prompt.
