System configuration tools crash!

When I run time-admin or users-admin from an xterm, the application
appears grayed out with a dialog that requests root-password. I type in
the password and the application becomes active and work. So far, so good.

But when I run any of the system config tools that require root (like
"Time and Date", "users and groups" via te Computer/System_configuration
menu, the root password windows appears, but now application in the
background. After entering the password, and waiting for 4 seconds, the
following dialog message appears:

Failed to run time-admin as user root:
  Child terminated with 1 status

The difference is that the admin-entries run "gksudo time-admin". So
this doesn't work.

Do any others experience this problem?

Regards,

Eric
