Suggestions on packages to add to Ubuntu "main"

On a Debian system I can no longer run K3b outside kde.  While
previously I could use kde-related programs while running XFCE I can
no longer.  I just wonder whether one would be able to run K3b in a
gnome-environment like that of Ubuntu's default installation.
