Suggestions on packages to add to Ubuntu "main"

Due to the fact this is a desktop distribution development
tools/sources are not included.  If the kernel sources were included
(which are rather large, especially for all flavors) development tools
such as gcc would also be needed and this would really start to take
up a lot of room.  If you want kernel sources or development tools it
is generally thought you are fairly experienced and would not have too
much problem downloading them.
