Same pb when I compiled it, I should have done a bug report.
Go to the debian directory, edit "control.modules.in" :
Package: sl-modem-modules-_KVERS_
Architecture: any
Depends: kernel-image-_KVERS_
Provides: sl-modem-modules-new
Replaces: sl-modem-modules
...
Change the line beginning with "Depends".
For example, I added linux-image:
Depends: kernel-image-_KVERS_ | linux-image-_KVERS_
