I walk into a restaurant . . .

Me: Do you have cheeseburgers?

Staff: You don't want a cheeseburger. We have something better than
that.

Me: I realize you do, but I'd like to know if you have cheeseburgers.

Staff: Let me tell you about the soy burgers we have that are wonderful.

Me: I know all about soy burgers, I'm wondering if you have
cheeseburgers.

Staff: Cheeseburgers aren't healthy. There are many much better options.
I can give you something that will taste just like cheeseburger and be
much better for you.

Me: I understand that, I know about the other options, I understand the
health issues, I understand the taste issues--I'm just wondering if you
have cheeseburgers.

Staff: You know, you should really consider the alternatives. I don't
understand what the difference would be if it looks and tastes just like
a cheeseburger.

Me: Could you please tell me if you have cheeseburgers or not?

Staff: What if we don't have cheeseburgers?

:-)
