don't get frustrated, it's a real popular demand so once some famous
guy/team will implement it. in my opinion it's one of the most urgent
features linux is missing to gain full desktop presence in SOHO's.
it's just a matter of time. 

for now there is i.e. sqlite you could use with openoffice as a frontend
(unfortunately no debian package yet):

http://dba.openoffice.org/drivers/sqlite/

or you could use mergeant, the generic gnome db frontend (it's in
universe) with a good bunch of db backends.
