Software modems are a tricky situation for Warty; this may be something to
look into for Hoary or later.

The autoconfiguration currently doesn't attempt to probe the amount of video
memory, I don't think, and bases its choices on the supported sync
frequencies.  Whether we should do something differently here is a question
for Fabio.

Please send the output of:

lspci
lspci -v

and we'll arrange for it to be autoloaded.

Does the laptop support ACPI at all?  If not, load the 'apm' module and use
APM instead.
