pppd issue

Hi list,

I just can't get my modem (external, ttyS0, USR56K) to dial.

I have:

- added ppp_generic to /etc/modules
- run pppconfig, including advance options for demand dialling etc
- given users the pif, dialout and tty groups.

I get the follow in my logs after entering pon on the CML:

Oct 9 14:50:43 localhost pppd[4672]: pppd 2.4.2 started by root, uid 0
Oct 9 14:50:43 localhost hal.hotplug[4680]: waiting for net info at
/class/net/ppp0
Oct 9 14:50:43 localhost hal.hotplug[4680]: Dont know how to wait for net
at /class/net/ppp0; sleeping 1000 ms
Oct 9 14:50:43 localhost pppd[4672]: Using interface ppp0
Oct 9 14:50:43 localhost pppd[4672]: local IP address 10.64.64.64
Oct 9 14:50:43 localhost pppd[4672]: remote IP address 10.112.112.112

I have no idea where the local and remote IP's have come from.

After doing a 'pon' I try to use firefox, but nothing dials or responds.

I have a couple of Linux years under my belt, but am new to Ubuntu and
Debian ways.

Any help would be appreciated. Dial up is my only option for web/net
access.
