Does your mouse have extra buttons, or any other non-standard features which
could explain the problem? Basic PS/2 mice are very simple and
well-supported, but some of the fancier models are tricky to initialize.

Does it help if you unplug the mouse and plug it back in?
There is also a new mouse driver attached to the bug, which might fix your
problem. The only straightforward way to install it is on the command-line,
though. I can provide explicit instructions if you are interested in
working with us to track down the problem.
