new to ubuntu, network/internet not working (driver problem?)

first off, let me apologize for sending my distress email to the list
twice. i had looked in the list options and seen that i was supposed
to get a copy of the email i sent to the list. when i didn't, i sent
it again thinking it didn't go through. excuse my ignorance.

second, i've tried a few different things to get the NIC working, all
to no avail. i tried to get the kernel headers, but had no luck with
