To provide another data point, I had the same error message (Kernel panic:
Attempted to kill init) on a B&W G3 on the reboot immediately following the
initial install, and I haven't been able to get Linux to boot up past this
point.
The first time through, I used the auto partitioner, then I used the same
file layout given below with a 6gig HD (bootstrap, swap space, then root
partition).
This was on the Public Preview ISO of Warty.
