needing the CD after installation for apt-get installs bugs me

no, but in case you want to install something and there is no newer
version on the net, synaptic/apt will ask for the cd.

the original poster didn't like to play DJ on installation, because all
packages on the cd are online too, so it's much more comfortable to do
an online install and switch off the cd if you got a fast internet
connection.
