Ubuntu and video resolutions..

I ran into the high resolution thing too, but in my case I was
thrilled. :) I haven't been able to get 1600x1200 working in other
distros.

I just did a test though to see if mine behaved like yours. The higher
resolution was indeed listed in my XF86Config-4 file. I edited it
(with pico, but I don't think that matters) and dropped it down to
1280x1024 and completely rebooted and it did what it was supposed to.
It worked going back to 1600x1200 too.

This is probably an obvious suggestion, but did you make sure you were
looking at the resolution settings for the correct bit depth?
