How to use a USB-based Palm?

For what it's worth, on my computer it only works with /dev/ttyUSB0

The setting up part is the hardest, once it's synching it works (I can
press hotsync and gpilot will do the rest). However, the synching
process is *much* slower than I was used to with KPilot, and it went
wrong a few times resulting in all sorts of duplicate entries in my
calendar and address book. 

So, for the developers: setting up should be easier (it shouldn't be
difficult to add udev rules to make most popular palm models work
with /dev/pilot). As for the slowness, I think that that's a
gnome/evolution thing which the Ubuntu folks can't help, but if it would
all go a bit quicker and less resource-eating, I'd be very happy.
