searching packages?

Hi,
I am still a little lost in the wormholes of the ubuntu universe:
o) cernlib suite of packages not installable, even though I know they
should build, because I did apt-get build-dep paw; apt-get source
--compile paw and got all packages
o) digikamplugins 0.6.2 not there yet
I do understand that problems like these are not a priority but would also
like to be able understand the situation of a particular package in
ubuntun/universe, e.g. available, being processed or simply unavailable.
Knowing that I can infer what I have to do: wait for a package to appear,
get the source and build myself or get a newer source from debian and
build etc.
In order to do this I think a web page like
http://www.debian.org/distrib/packages incl. the search interfaces would
help.
Another possibility for problematic packages with which your build system
somehow does not cope could be that packages built by the ubuntu community
get uploaded. I know this has many implications and needs careful
consideration, but it could help.
Cheers, Stefan
