How Ubuntu installer auto setups XF86Config-4?

This isn't impossible.. install ubuntu on the spare driver (like you
already did, right?).

Be sure to have: laptop-detect. discover1, xresprobe and mdetect installed.

Keep a copy of xserver-xfree86_4.3.0.dfsg.1-6ubuntu22_i386.deb
If you installed from cdrom it should be in /var/cache/apt/archive,
otherwise grab it from the network and put it somewhere.

there are several ways know to rerun autodetection, but i will give you
the one i usually use to test the package and simulate a fresh install.

apt-get --purge remove xserver-xfree86

NOTE that will take away also another package but don't be scared. It's
only a virtual (empty) package.

mv /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 /etc/X11/XF86Config-4.old

and than dpkg -i xserver-xfree86_4.3.0.dfsg.1-6ubuntu22_i386.deb
