MIDI for AC97 card?

When trying to run both programs, do you get any errors? If not, try and 
run them from a terminal and see what you get.

AC97 soundcards do not have MIDI support, only audio. The reason why 
there is usually MIDI in Windows is that Windows has it's own softsynth, 
which is what you want timidity to do right?
