Totem doesn't play DVDs?

I'm new to Ubuntu, and about 6 months with Libranet 2.8.1. Totem won't
play my DVD. It will play MP3 files. I downloaded gstreamer-plugins (18
files in all), and that fired up the MP3 player. But with the DVD, Totem
says I don't have the right plugins. I briefly uninstalled
totem-gstreamer in favor of totem-xine. Then I got the audio from the
DVD, but still no video. Is anyone successfully playing DVDs with Totem?
