Need help getting sound working

Have you tried getting the module information from the following site:
http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/

It's the first place to start looking, and the place where I am looking
at the moment. Sound is the only thing remaining to configure on my laptop.

Ubuntu doesn't have alsaconf - is there a different util that does
things for you?
