Dial-up problems

I'm using the standard network setup program provided by Ubuntu which
I assume is wvdial. The modem dials properly and connects, but then
disconnects, I assume after trying to login. No error message is shown
at all. Tried with two different ISP's and two different numbers.
System works fine under Win2KPro
