firefox and java

I have a web app that I have to interact with at work via java applets.
Using Firefox 0.9.3 that comes with warty, and 1.0 that I downloaded
myself, I'm having problems getting the applet in question to come up
consistently. 

I'm using 

[msoulier at latte plugins]$ dpkg -S libjavaplugin_oji.so
j2re1.4: /usr/lib/j2se/1.4/jre/plugin/i386/mozilla/libjavaplugin_oji.so

j2re1.4. Should I be using something else? This works fine in windows
with firefox.
