synaptic does not 'purge' /etc/sane.d/

The files in /etc/sane.d are part of the two packages: libsane and
sane-utils on my system. 

If you removed some packages and you are not sure what configuration
is left, you can check with the "Status/Not installed (residual
config)" view.

The actual files can be viewed now with the "Properties" window under
the tab "Installed Files".
