That's the hard way. Try this:
Let's pretend you want to create a menu entry for a new game.
As a "normal" (non-root) user, left-click the "Applications" menu.
Move your pointer down to "Games". A child-menu will appear with some
games on it. Move the pointer to the child-menu.
Move the pointer over any game name and when it's highlighted,
right-click on it. Yet another child-menu will appear. Move your
pointer to "Entire menu".
Now hold on, we're almost there!
Once you've moved your pointer over "Entire menu", one final
child-menu will appear. Select "Add new item to this menu".
A "Create Launcher" dialog box will appear. Fill it out, click "OK"
and you're done!
