2d user added, no sound (useradd or adduser ?)

you could do it in a very ugly but working way, by adding a kill command
to the gdm post session script do:
sudo gedit  /etc/gdm/PostSession/Default

and then add:
kill -9 `pidof esd`

to a line right before the exit 0 in the last line.
