open-source alternatives to Java and Flash

of course doing only a google search made me to totally miss the
open-source Macromedia Flash replacement in Warty's universe: 
swf-player. (and it comes with a plugin for firefox! automatically
installed in the correct directory for Wart'ys firefox).

I have to say, I like it's disclaimer that comes with it: "This is
alpha software. It will probably behave in many situations, but may
also ride your motorcycle, drink all your milk, or use your computer
to browse porn. Comments, feature requests, and patches are welcome."

In some preliminary tests its doing quite an average job on a couple
of real-life web site example I have found.
