Couldn't you just use a symlink, linking /var/cache/apt/archives in the
new ubuntu install to /mnt/sda14/ubuntu-updates ?
I don't really know the inner working of apt, but I know that when I try
to reinstall something, I never have to redownload it, so I'd THINK that
the symlink would work.
