Gnome dot releases

Perhaps someone could start a Yet Another Unofficial support site that
would host updated Gnome point releases? The effort would be off
Canonical's hands but people wanting the Gnome "fix packs" would still
get them with little work.

The updates might be even necessary for people who need to compile or
rebuild latest versions of some apps that aren't included in the
bi-yearly Ubuntu releases.

Also, I believe many see Ubuntu as sort of a Gnome showcase distro and
to keep such Gnome aficiados happily in the fold, some kind of
alternative update route might be attractive.

One of Linux's and open-source software's greatest selling points is
that updates are made available as they come. Since Ubuntu is already
focused on Gnome and a relatively small number of included apps, it
should also be relatively painless to keep that software complete
up-to-date, compared to the three+ CD distros for instance.

Just my 0.02 euros worth.
