Two HD's disappear

Hi,

My setup as follows..

HDA	ATA 80g maxtor
HDB	ATA 80g maxtor
HDC	CD writer
HDE	DVD

SDA	SATA 80g maxtor
SDB	ATA 80g hitachi as USB external drive.

Now for experimental and learning I installed ubuntu warty & mdk 10.1 on the SATA .. SDA.

All above drives were in place while installing.

mdk 10.1 on sda6 /  &  sda7 /home.

ubuntu on sda8 /  &  sda8  /home.

First after install mdk and rebooting.  fdisk -l  all four HD's show and can be mounted after creating a mountpoint.

Second after install ubuntu and rebooting.  fdisk -l  only sda  &  sdb show.  hda & hdb missing.

create mountpoint for hda14. mount. Device does not excist.
check /dev.  Sure no entries for hda & hdb.
Seem that ubuntu ignore all HD's before the install HD ???

Question..

What happened to the 2 drives.
What can be done to correct this.

Kindly some pointers please.
