Hi Lex. I only have a humble 7500 so I can't try ATI's binary driver,
but I'm AMAZED at how good the performance is with the default "ati"
driver. Even GL stuff is pretty quick. Over the weeks, I've gathered
from the list that the ATI binary drivers really aren't worth it.
(unless you specifically need something they provide I suppose).

Now... You're weird problem... It sounds to me like there could be a
hardware issue. Have you tried reseating the video card? Make sure the
contacts are clean? Blow some compressed air into the AGP slot? Make
sure the monitor cable is firmly in place?

I'm not sure if the entry in the wiki means that 3D (and therefore the
binary driver) doesn't work, or simply that the person who entered the
info didn't check compatibility. Either way, here's the link if you
