Laptop Question

I have an HP ze5232 and I am having a good experience overall with Warty
so far.

I used to solely use KDE as my environment, and it's battery monitoring
worked well. Within the default Ubuntu environment, the battery monitor
isn't refreshing properly.

I disconnected the mains as I needed the cable to power up my external
drive, and there was a change to battery but it sat at 97% until I
rebooted about an hour later when it came up as 51%. After plugging the
mains cable back in, it is still showing I am battery powered.

Any ideas?
