DVDs and gstreamer

Hi,

I can't seem to find an answer to this question:

What is the issue with gstreamer and DVD playback?

Since there seems to have been a decision to favour gstreamer over other
multimedia apps, presumably on the basis of it's architectural coolness,
I don't want to replace totem-gstreamer with totem-xine, and the only
other option seems to be to install ogle, which from an end-user
perspective scores highly on the yuck-ometer due to it's GUI.
