Cannot remove "removable" drives

In Computer ---> Desktop Preferences ---> Removable Storage
There are some options that you could unselect to disable the
automatic mounting and browing if removable media. Have you played
with those?
Personally, for my cdrom drives, I disable the automatic mount, and
then uses the Gnome's Disk Mounter applet.one applet per drive. I
inset the media in the drive, click on the applet to mount. When I
need to unmount, click the applet again, and I have the applet defined
to eject on unmount. I really prefer that total control on my drives
than having to deal. I suspect you could something similar with your
Jaz Drive.
