Help with sound please

The output plug-in is set to e-sound and I've tried them all.
Cd audio player is listed and enabled
as are all the others in the list.
How do I type Ctrl-P in xmms?
Also after I installed Xmms it did not show up in any menu. I have to do
a 'run application' to bring it up.
