XFree Won't Run with ATI Radeon 7000

nope, see above, no changes are written....either copy back the backup
you made before editing it manually, or try to create a new one with
sudo xf86cfg (regard that you need to change the location of the file to
save on exit to store it in /tmp or your home dir) now copy the newly
created file to /etc/X11.

your xserver should work as detected by xf86cfg.
