I had *long* delays in sending and hearing replies (10-20 seconds), so
this solution worked for me. It  *should* work using OSS emulation
through ALSA, but it didn't for me.

Yes, I had that to. I downloaded an update that just went on the site
yesterday (0.93.0.3 is the latest) and now the notification goes where
it is supposed to. Still ugly, but slightly less so. There are still
plenty of bugs to squish, though. The Help/About page doesn't work for
me now, for a start.
